Dare Bear Paws Crunchy Crackers

When it comes to easy access snacks, crackers are an automatic healthy snack choice in our house. Our only concern when buying products like crackers, cookies etc that may eventually end up on a lunch is to make sure they are nut free. Our daughters school is nut-free and we, like any other parent abide by the no-nut rule for safeties sake.

We had the opportunity to try out the new Dare Bear Paws Crunchy Crackers in cheddar cheese!

Fun meets crunch in these baked crackers, shaped like the original Bear Paws cookies, that are made with real cheddar! Perfect in lunch-boxes or as a snack at home, the whole family is sure to love every bite!

We occasionally buy Bear Paws cookies which our kids love, so we knew they would enjoy the new Dare Bear Paws Crunchy crackers too!

We are happy that there are companies like Dare who care about the health and well being of our families by putting pride into quality food products.

BornFree Sippy and Twist’nPop Cups Review and Giveaway

Being a mother of two I have had my share of sippy cup purchasing experience. With our girl we tried several different kinds and she ended up catching on with one particular brand so we stuck with it until she was able to drink from a non-lid cup, even then a cup with a lid comes in handy when your kids are determined to spill just about everything.

With little guy it’s been different. We have tried him with his sister’s old sippy cups and he refuses to drink from them and says they are her cups unless of course she is using one then he wants what she has, typical little brother behaviour. We have bought several different kinds and styles of sippy cup, even one that almost resembles a bottle but nope, no dice. He can’t manage to drink out of them. The spouts flow too fast or are too slow. We have been looking for a good quality sippy cup that doesn’t leak and our little guy can actually drink from properly.

We were happy to review BornFree sippy cups and the newest line in BornFree cups -the Twist’nPop cup. Incase you didn’t know, BornFree is the worlds leading BPA-free baby brand and specializes in designing baby and toddler products like baby bottles, pacifiers and sippy cups using safe materials with the smartest innovations. BornFree cups and bottles feature the unique BornFree venting system, designed to reduce colic and middle-ear infections.

The sippy cup is what we were most interested in although the Twist’nPop cup will come in handy for our girl to use or for little guy when he is a bit older and masters the first stage of drinking like a big boy!

The sippy cup came in blue, which he loved. It’s leak-proof and has the unique BornFree venting system, rubber spout, removable handles so you can use it as a beginner or for toddlers and of course the lid. The size is good, holds about 12oz. Very simple to take apart to clean and very simple to assemble back together, no more fighting with crooked lids. It is also dishwasher safe.

As for little guy, it seems he had a very easy time drinking out of this one. No complaints, in which case he would usually throw the cup on the floor and say “it’s broken”. He’s enjoying his new BornFree sippy cup and I’m happy at the fact it works for both of us.
The Twist’nPop cup is a 14oz toddler drinking cup with a twist-straw mouth and silicon straw. It is quite big in size and has an ergonomic design making it easy for smaller hands to hold it. Although I find the cap is harder for little guy to twist open and close but he is still just mastering the sippy cup itself. To open the Twist’nPop you twist the cap counter-clockwise until the straw pops-out and to close you just twist the cap the opposite way until you see the arrow and know that it’s properly sealed to keep the straw clean and prevent leaks. All parts are removable, easy to wash like the sippy cup are also dishwasher safe.

The Flu 2011: Update

We were hit hard with some kind of flu bug this past week. As I posted a few days ago it all started Friday night and by Sunday night both kids were pale as ghosts with fevers and the whole kit.

Mommy guilt stepped in when K missed a few days of school. I know we kept her home because she was seriously not in a condition to be at school, she had no energy etc but that part of me felt bad she was missing out on her lessons. We end up reading books and pointing out her “snap words” in cases like these.

It’s hard when both kids are home and neither one feels good. They get on eachothers nerves being crabby and sick. Not fun for anyone, especially mom and dad who are hearing it ;).

Finally Friday rolls along and both kids were feeling much better. K wanted to go to school for what they call “Friday Funtubs” where at the end of the day they get to choose a toy from the “Funtubs” to play with and they are allowed to bring something in to show the class.

So, since the fever went down and she wasn’t violently coughing anymore she went to school. Unfortunately we missed when the pizza day forms went home and poor K had a meat sandwich for lunch while everyone else had pizza. Hey, at least I packed her cookies! We can thank the flu for K blaming missing pizza day on us! We did get pizza for the kids for supper but I can see why she was upset being the only kid with a lunch made by mom on pizza day. 😦

Other than that episode, it seems that nasty virus has left the building. Knock on wood.

I’m lucky, hubby and I had a couple of days where we didn’t feel 100% but not nearly as sick as the kids were.

Happy the kids are better, it’ll be easier to get things back into routine (again!) having them back to healthy.

Let’s hope this is the first and last strain of flu virus for winter 2011!

Beat the rain

Today’s weather was really weird. It was blue skys in the morning with fluffy white clouds. I managed to wash and hang a load of bedclothes out on my line to dry in the breeze that picked up in the afternoon.
Thunder storms for some of the region were announced via the weather network and various sources on Twitter, so we anticipated a storm.
My daughter wanted to ride her bike before it started to rain. She needs a new girl bike – the other blue one we have “is for boys” so she chose her old Dora bike – it’s going in our upcoming garage sale, too small for her but anyway she was only riding the thing around the driveway.

Daddy set her up with her helmet and his set of riding rules, she’s still learning.
With that she was off doing laps while daddy cut the grass and I went to tend to little man. After daddy was done cutting the grass I went out and watched her ride around.
She was so proud! It brought back memories of feeling the joy of learning to ride a bike – I’m rusty these days.

She beat the rain, by minutes but she had a fun time even if it was just outside our front door. It’s the little things that make them smile, which make us smile.
Until next time…Keep dreaming always…

How times flies!

Already in the middle of June, once again we say “time sure does fly!”. This has been a strange month, having bad news this past week, bad weather and not so perfect behaviour from my children finally the week is coming to and end. We can all take a nice deep breathe and relax tomorrow night.

For tonight after having another long morning/early afternoon of running errands I decided to edit and publish my recent drafts for www.helium.com for those followers who are fellow writers and would like to join please, visit the website and sign up its free!

Total articles now on Helium: 36
Total Writing Stars on Helium: 3
Total Rating Stars on Helium: 2

I’m proud of my stats. I leapfrogged one article being Helium changed their rules on selling the articles (making it easier so no complaints) the only catch is you have to have it rated high and this particular one was lacking ALOT. Needless to say I got it done and I’m happy about it.

My daughter was having a bit of a hard week this week, after bringing home several certificates of good behaviour it went down again. She tries so hard, she knows shes going into kindergarten soon so the babyish behaviour has to stay back at preschool. My daughter is the type of child who is sensitive but has a temper, she likes to get her way and she’ll try anything to get her way. Basically won’t take no for an answer (I have to laugh she reminds me of her dad).

We have been working on this for a while now. Some days she can be such an angel and then others forget it! I know people say “thats every kid” but oh some days it just shouldn’t be mine acting like that! As I keep telling myself, give her time, shes only going on 5.

My son will be celebrating turning One Year Corrected Age on the 14th of June. It’s a big milestone for us too. He is doing amazing considering everything he’s been through. Monday we have to do a hard thing, get immunization 😦 I hate going for that and seeing my kids cry and theres nothing I can do but comfort them with a hug at the end. I can imagine my son on Monday, oh boy!

Well its getting late, time to get ready for bed and call it a night. Feels good to use the computer as it doesnt take me as long to write an entry!! Oh well someday I will have my mini laptop or maybe better yet my macbook (dream on!)

Keep Dreaming…….
