Cook book review: A Zombie Ate My Cupcake!

22 Sep

A Zombie Ate My Cupcake by Lily Vanilli

Fall is now upon us and aside from Thanksgiving in a couple of weeks we have another celebration to be thinking about: Halloween! The celebration where our little ones have fun dressing up and going out trick-or-treating while the older kids and some adults have our Halloween party get together to celebrate the occasion.

I have had the opportunity to review a great Halloween themed cupcake cook book called “A Zombie Ate My Cupcake” by Lily Vanilli. The book contains 25 deliciously weird cupcake recipes that will shock your party guests, from Zombie fingers and Bleeding hearts to Mutant Ears and rotten ragworm. It’ll have ideas flowing and people talking at your Halloween party this year! Although I haven’t had the chance to make any as of yet after reviewing and reading the book, the cupcakes look incredibly grotesque but unique and creative!  I can’t wait to try some out myself!

What I like about this particular cook book is that it has some great ideas for Halloween themed party or bake sale treats and has been released right in time for Halloween 2010. They are so realistic looking, I hope when I make some they look just as good! My daughter thought that the gruesome sweets were just great as she leafed through the book.
The only thing I can see wrong is some of the recipes seem a bit difficult for those lacking culinary skills and know how when it comes to ingredients. It’s a great book for someone with baking experience and can be fun to include the kids in the making of some really ghoulish delights. Some of the ingredients are head-scratchers (like luster dust?), but I’m sure they could be substituted for something similar. Either way the cupcakes do look amazing, gross but really incredible creations! These are certainly not your ordinary every day cupcakes! “A Zombie ate my cupcake” is now available online at Amazon.ca.
